Wounded Warriors April 2012 Hog Hunt
Texas cities of Weatherford and Mineral Wells teamed up to sponsor the HALO for Freedom Warrior Foundation’s Wounded Warriors Hog Hunt and Firearms Competition on April 13 and 14, 2012. Twenty-five amputee warriors from eight states were flown in to participate and to be honored in the event. Kicking off with a celebratory dinner Thursday evening, a group of injured soldiers from across the country began a weekend of hunting and other activities Friday morning at the Vietnam War Memorial Museum, just east of Mineral Wells.
The National Vietnam War Museum of Mineral Wells staged the hog hunt and firearms competition. Vietnam War Memorial Museum Director Jim Messinger coordinated the event, which included a Vintage WWII Warbird aircraft fly over by Brig Gen USAF (Ret.) Bill Guy and four Tuskegee airmen “Redtails.” Parachuting in were Bowman and Petry. Before the conclusion of the event, a chuck wagon breakfast was enjoyed by all.
Organizers said the many volunteers and supporters “truly came to the call of duty through their support and participation, putting together an event that demonstrated to our wounded warriors they are not forgotten.”
