This has been another exciting year for me in my photography career. I have traveled to photograph in other countries and many locations in the US and have lived to tell the tale. People often ask how I have developed my photography as an art. I attribute my success as a portrait artist to studying under Jay Stock, my teacher and mentor for more than fifteen years. I am now honored to continue Jay's teaching legacy and have begun planning my 3rd annual workshop to be held in Dallas April 13-17, 2008.
My class is taught using an active hands on approach. As my student you will be photographing a wide variety of subjects in interesting environments. In past classes we have photographed ballerinas, musicians, artists, blue bonnets, demonstrations, festivals and tattooed Harley bikers. Preliminary plans for this year's workshop include real Texas cowboys, artists, ballerinas, bluebonnets and the old McKinney flour mill built in the late 1800s.
Our class will share the importance of developing a body of work and building a portfolio. We will discuss becoming a collector of art, creating your own art and how to see things in new way. As we all know, anybody can take a picture but it takes an artist to tell a story. This process will help you develop and differentiate your own unique style. The most important aspect of what makes this study program both unique and successful is the fact that your instruction continues after the April workshop. You will develop lasting relationships with other peers who come from all over the nation to study in this program. You will also become part of a smaller group who will meet monthly to exchange ideas and challenge you to expand outside your normal routine.
As your mentor and teacher, I will offer feedback and advise throughout the year on your work and will actively be involved in your journey toward developing your photography as art. I am looking forward to another exciting year with new and continuing students and hope that you can join me. This opportunity will be limited to only fifteen students so do not delay registration. After I receive your registration form and deposit, I will contact you to coordinate lodging and other class details. Please feel free to call or email me with any questions.
